Dear Congressperson/Senator name,
Subject: excessive (over five year) delays for permanent residents to be united with their foreign spouse.
I am a lawful permanent resident of the United States.
Unfortunately, due to annual numerical limits on the spouse/children
of permanent resident immigrant visa, I have been separated
from my spouse since marriage and from my children during their
formative years.
We have been waiting for the visas for several years.
The foreign spouse/children of a permanent resident have to wait
outside the country until his/her immigrant visa is approved.
This takes in excess of five years.
Temporary visas are available to the spouse of U.S. citizens
(K visa) and non-immigrants (e.g., H-4), however, there is no
such provision for the spouse of a permanent resident.
I urge you to support legislation to end family separation.
This will allow me to be united with my family.
I will not have to choose between country and family.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
your signature (in case of mail/fax)
