September 18, 2008 — Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) introduced S. 3514. Congressman Mike Honda (D-CA-15) introduced H.R. 6938. If enacted, this bill would reclassify spouses and minor children of permanent residents as immediate relatives, thus exempting them from numerical visa limits.

July 31, 2008 — The House Immigration Subcommittee, under the chairmanship of Congresswoman Lofgren (D-CA-16), approved H.R. 5882, a bill to recapture unused immigrant visas from 1992 through 2007. The vote was eight in favor, and one against, indicating significant bipartisan support. Ranking member King (R-IA) voted against the bill.

Senate votes against the Clinton amendment
June 6, 2007 — Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ) raised a budget point of order which would require 60 votes to overcome. Senator Kennedy (D-MA) asked for a vote. The Senate voted 44 in favor of waiving the Budget Act and 53 against. Since the budget point of order could not be overcome, the amendment failed.
