Senate votes against the Clinton amendment

June 6, 2007 — Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ) raised a budget point of order which would require 60 votes to overcome.  Senator Kennedy (D-MA) asked for a vote.  The Senate voted 44 in favor of waiving the Budget Act and 53 against.  Since the budget point of order could not be overcome, the amendment failed.

Immediate Relative Reclassification Amendment introduced

May 23, 2007 — Senators Clinton, Hagel, and Menendez have introduced an amendment (S.A. 1183 to S. 1348/S.A. 1150) to reclassify spouses and children of permanent residents as immediate relatives, thus exempting them from numerical limits on immigrant visas.  Statement.
